HOUSATONIC, Mass. (WWLP) - Great Barrington Police say no one was injured and there was no exposure to hazardous materials when 17 freight train cars derailed on a Housatonic Railroad Thursday night.
Great Barrington Police officer Jonathan Finnerty told 22News 17 of the 43-car freight train went off their tracks at 168 Front Street, route 183 in the village of Housatonic at 6:52 pm Thursday.
Officer Finnerty said none of the cars were on there side, but one freight car was leaning against a building, which he believed to be an art studio.
Officer Finnerty said no one was injured and the train was not hauling hazardous cargo, and there was no fuel spill.
The tracks are used by the Housatonic Railroad which runs freight trains between Canaan, Ct and Pittsfield, according to Officer Finnerty.
No other railroads should be affected.
