WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) - A missing 28 year-old woman who prompted a search by both land and air through northern Berkshire County has been found safe.
According to a news release from the Massachusetts State Police, the woman, who disappeared Monday, was discovered late Wednesday afternoon just over the New York state line.
Earlier in the day, Massachusetts State Police and Williamstown Police had been notified that New York authorities were searching for the woman near the area of Petersburg Pass, which is located in nearby Petersburg, New York. Police later learned that on Monday, a man had driven the woman from Petersburg to the Cumberland Farms store on Main Street in Williamstown.
A resident of a home on Adams Road, which is near the Cumberland Farms, had reported to police that someone had broken into his basement, and had set up what appeared to be a shelter.
The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing was called-in to aid in the search for the woman just before 2:30 P.M. Their efforts focused largely on an abandoned trailer park near Route 2. More than an hour later, state police received a report that the woman had been found in New York State, and had been taken into custody for evaluation.
The woman’s name and image are not being released at this time. State police do say that the woman is from New York State.
