Pittsfield hosts Ethnic Fair

Street festival displays cultural foods, music

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Downtown Pittsfield became a hub of ethnic pride this afternoon. The food and the music from dozens of cultures attracted thousands of people.

It's been seven years since the first Pittsfield Ethnic Fair, and the thousands who  came  downtown for the food and the music as well as the camaraderie weren't about to let a little rain keep them away. They could enjoy diverse musical styles from Israel and Brazil as food from Italy and Ireland.

The Robertsons of Pittsfield had never been to the ethnic fair. The event left quite an impression.

Kim Robinson told 22News, “It's been great, great food, it brings people together and it’s unique.”

Sean Robinson added that they were “having a good time, having some great food, a lot of entertainment as far as the bands being played. Good so far.”

Those who've been coming for years are attracted by specific cultural attractions. Kathleen Turner described herself as long time supporter of this ethnic festival.

Turner told 22News, “I came up today to support the Italian American Club of Pittsfield. Just to see all the vendors and meet all the people.”

The food, the music, and the good company are a good combination that works for the Ethnic Fair committee that's been putting together this event for almost a decade. No one we spoke with has any doubt they'll be back next year, when the family friendly outdoor street festival attracts fans from all over Berkshire County.
