STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) - The town of Stockbridge is taking an active interest to make sure the fire damaged former Desisto School remains intact.

22News was there Saturday night when firefighters from several Berkshire County towns prevented the main building from burning down.

The 120 year-old building and its adjoining property are rich in history.

Town Administrator Jorga Ann Marsden said this land preceded Tanglewood as the site of the Berkshire Music Festival.

“We are looking to keep it. The open space that it has and the historic nature of the building; it's one of our great cottages,” Marsden said.

Right now, the property is up for sale. The Desisto School for troubled young people was shut down almost ten years.
