SHEFFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Sheffield police say a local man has been killed after crashing his dirt bike into a tree.

Police say Kyle Curtiss was riding nearing his home at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when his bike left the road and slammed into a tree.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that passers-by came upon the scene and attempted CPR on Curtiss, who was knocked unconscious.

The Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad arrived on the scene and continued revival efforts on the way to Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Curtiss was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Curtiss was wearing a helmet and the accident remains under investigation.
