SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Council of Churches of Greater Springfield needs your help. They'd like to collect several hundred hygiene kits to send to the Haitian earthquake victims.

They're filled with crucial items like a toothbrush, wash cloth and soap.

The 'Church World Service' has already emptied its emergency warehouse, and is shipping 35-thousand kits to the crumbling country.

Now, it's your turn. "It's so important for the church and the community to rise to this occasion and the Greater Springfield Council of Churches right now is lending a voice to this. And we hope that it will inspire others to just get involved and do something from Springfield collectively for the people of Haiti," said Archbishop Timothy Paul, Council of Churches Board of Directors.

All the major television networks will be airing a " Hope For Haiti Telethon" this Friday, January 22nd.

22News will be airing the telethon from 8pm to 10pm.

The special will air live from Los Angeles, New York, and Haiti.

All the proceeds will be split among the six relief organizations currently operating in Haiti.
