SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A group called Stop Toxic Incineration pleaded with the
Springfield Health Council on Wednesday night to convince the
governor to stop the permit to build a wood burning power plant in
the city.
The plant at 1000 Page Boulevard would burn about 800 tons of
wood chips per day. The group told 22News it would pump lead,
nitrous oxide and other toxic chemicals into the air.
"It's going to spew things like lead, arsenic, cadmium into
the air, and we know that there are no safe levels of any of these
chemicals," said Megan Jenny from the Toxics Action Center.
The Springfield Health Council plans to meet with incinerator
officials at one of their future sessions.
