GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Greenfield High School was transformed into a thriving winter farmers' market on Saturday.
From the moment the doors opened, Franklin County residents packed the place for the start of Winter Fare Week.
Families came from all over to select the food that's grown, packaged and bottled by Franklin County farmers.
Those who crowded into the makeshift farmers' market told 22News, they came to do their share.
“It gives us the local consumers the opportunity to get vegetables and other produce in the middle of winter direct from the farmers, the same way we do in the summer at the local farmers' markets,” said Peter Stevens of Shelburne.
“This is good for Franklin County because it supports our local agriculture and supports organic foods, good for the local economy and healthy for our families,” said Judy Bennett of Greenfield.
As one shopper told 22News, this winter farmers' market is a celebration of all that good stuff that is grown by Franklin County farmers.
