Rt. 2 re-opened after serious crash in Gill

Woman had to be taken to hospital by helicopter

GILL, Mass. (WWLP) - A serious accident in Gill closed a stretch of Route 2 for hours on Wednesday morning.

Trooper Chris Lipiec at the Shelburne Falls Barracks told 22News that car hit a utility pole at around 2 A.M. Wednesday.

Trooper Nicole Morrell told 22News that the driver was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center with serious injuries, but she was then was taken by helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Police are not releasing her name or condition at this time.

Until re-opening at about 8:30, Route 2 was closed from the Gill Mobil Gas Station to River Road. Traffic had to be detoured through Turners Falls.

State police are still looking into what caused the woman to crash.
