NEW SALEM, Mass. (WWLP) - A 19 year-old from Royalston died after she crashed her car into a tree on Route 202 in eastern Franklin County.

Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, notified 22News that Amanda Putney was the victim of the single-car crash in New Salem Friday afternoon.

According to police, around noontime, Putney had been driving north on Route 202, when she struck a tree off the southbound shoulder, about a mile south of the junction of Route 122.

State police are still trying to figure out what caused Putney to crash.
