GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Car accidents happen every day but Greenfield police say a wreck on Bernardston Road Sunday afternoon was the result of a selfless act.

Officer Patricia West told 22News an elderly couple was turning across the two-way street when they stopped in the middle of the road.

Nick Georgitsa of Greenfield swerved to avoid them, hit an embankment and went airborne. He's okay but his car is totaled.

Witnesses say Georgitsa likely saved the elderly couple's lives with his quick thinking.

Nick explained to 22News it was second nature, he's a professional truck driver.
