GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - This weekend some service stations in Springfield and Holyoke lowered their prices below 3 dollars and 30 cents for a gallon of regular gas.
But while this Irving service station charges 3.37 in Springfield, Franklin county drivers have to pay 21 cents a gallon more at the Irving station in Greenfield.
22News was told Springfield has the advantage of being a gasoline distribution center.
“You go to pick up a load of gas, drop it at the station, takes you maybe 30 minutes. If you transport that same load of gas to Greenfield, Massachusetts, it takes you about five hours,” said Senior Vice President of Sandri Inc. Richard Barnes.
Barnes said the extra time means extra cost. In this case the distance from Springfield to Greenfield can add as much as twenty cents to the price.
