GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A fire in Greenfield has caused extensive damage to a house on Deerfield Street Saturday night.
Firefighters from Greenfield and surrounding towns responded to 106 Deerfield Street late Saturday night.
Greenfield Fire Captain John Whitney told 22News, when they arrived, most of the fire was on the second floor and the roof area.
He said, it was an unused building, and the building was actually condemned back in August of 2011.
People living in the multi-family home next door had to be evacuated because of their proximity to the fire.
And Captain Whitney said, power lines in the area made it difficult for firefighters to put out the fire.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
And the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
