ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) - Emergency responders brought a hazardous materials situation at the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange under control Tuesday night.

Orange Fire Chief Dennis Annear told 22News that a lens for a laser cutter exploded in the Rodney Hunt Company a little after 8:30 Tuesday night.

"The glass is coated with zinc selenide, and when the lens shattered the chemical vaporized, exposing several workers.  There was no contamination outside the building," said Chief Annear.

Three men were brought to Athol Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Rodney hunt Company manufactures valves and gates for water and wastewater systems.  There were about 40 people in the building at the time of the emergency.

Chief Annear said, "the situation is under control."
