GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The historic Hotel Winslow in downtown Greenfield has been refurbished into a housing complex for people who don't have a lot to spend for rent.
Tammy Newell was homeless until she moved in to the Winslow Apartments near downtown just the other day. She told 22News that moving into one of the 55 newly-renovated one room apartments has given her hope for the future. “I'm disabled, so this is a perfect location near the elevator. And it's perfect, near Main Street and it's within walking distance of everything. I love it,” Newell said.
Tammy is one of the Winslow's 38 tenants; the building is 70% occupied. A spokesman for the Greenfield Housing Authority told 22News that he expects the rest of the building to fill up fast.
