Last minute storm preparations

A clear morning gave people time for errands

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Mother Nature gave us somewhat of a break Friday-- instead of waking up to the storm, people still had a few hours to prepare.

Like the rest of western Massachusetts, there wasn't a typical feeling of the week winding down in Greenfield Friday morning. There was much work to be done.

Got to stock up on things so we don't have to go out,” said Maxine Foster of Greenfield.

Governor Patrick said if you don't have to leave your home, stay there. That got people up and at 'em early Friday morning to get any last minute supplies before the snow started falling.

The supermarket parking lot stayed busy throughout the morning, but the shelves were stocked and the shoppers were calm.

It was fine. Not too bad. I don't think people are panicking as much as the hype of the potentially two feet of snow. You try not to get worried before it happens because it may not,” said Colette Jaques of Greenfield.

Some shopping lists were longer than others. Several people told 22News they already had everything they need at home; that it's all part of being a New Englander.

We've already had two huge storms if no one is prepared by now. We've had sandy, Irene. Let's be real we live in New England. We're supposed to be ready, We're supposed to be set. Anytime people panic it makes me laugh,” said Kyle McDonald of Greenfield.

And once the preparations were complete, families were looking ahead to a snowbound weekend.

We're not too worried. We're kind of excited for a big snowstorm. I'm sure our boys will want to be out bright and early tomorrow morning playing in the snow,” said Julie Schloat of Deerfield.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to it and it's on the weekend so that's the least intrusive for people's lives. I hope we get a lot of snow. I'm going to fire up my snowblower and hope we have a better relationship than we've had in the past,” said Anne Echeverria of Greenfield.
