GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Shell Station on the Mohawk Trail in Greenfield was closed Sunday night into Monday morning because of a gas leak.
Fire Captain Andrew Garvin told 22News that firefighters were called to the gas station around 7 P.M. Sunday, after a gas leak was found in one of the manholes on the property.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was immediately notified. Crews were there cleaning-up the leak through Monday morning.
Some gasoline was also found in a nearby brook that runs off from the catch basin. But The DEP setup booms on the water to prevent any further contamination.
Captain Garvin said overall, that the leak is contained, and no other residents are affected by it.
However authorities are still trying to investigate what caused the leak.
