GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A lucky lottery winner could walk away with hundreds of millions of dollars on Wednesday night. The grand prize is now set at $320 million, and it's Powerball's fourth largest jackpot in the game's 20-year history.
What's more impressive is that in just one day, the Powerball jackpot increased by $15 million. State Lottery officials say strong sales across the nation drove the jackpot up so quickly.
There have been 14 consecutive drawings with no big winner since June 27th.
At Foster's Supermarket in Greenfield, Powerball player Cindy Foster told 22News it's hard to resist when the tickets are two dollars each, yet the jackpot is $320 million.
"It was spontaneous. I heard the amount and I bought two tickets. Otherwise I wouldn't. 300... that's good. That'd be awesome. I have three kids and a beautiful wife at home. It'd be amazing," Foster said.
A grand prize winner choosing the cash option will get a lump sum payment of $213 million. We'll have the winning numbers on 22News at 11.
