GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A new business is opening in Greenfield sparking hope that this is a start of revitalization.

Restaurants keep Main Street in Greenfield bustling throughout the year. Yet there haven't been a lot of new businesses lately. Now a new store will open on Wednesday.

“I always felt this corner of Main Street doesn't have a convenient store. I thought it was a good location and a lot of people walk by,” said Owner Shahid Habib of Shaw Mart.

Co-chair Kathy Vranos of Business and Technology says a business showing its values connecting to the local community in a really dynamic way with events as well as the internet and social media.

People like coming to town for that main reason.

“I do like the downtown I think it has a lot of diversity as far as I can see I love Hen's and Chicks it’s my favorite store. I get here as often as I can,” said Karen Ladeau.

Economic Development Director Bob Pyers told 22news there hasn't been a lot if businesses coming into town. There's some things businesses should do people say they would be like to see different things in Greenfield.

A target definitely I have to go to Hadley to go to Target. I know they have Big Y here and Stop and Shop but if you can get everything all at once that will be great,” said Lisa Turner of Turner Falls.

A big box store may come to French King Highway in Greenfield next year.
