GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Work to reconstruct the six-mile section of Route 2 devastated by Tropical Storm Irene will begin early next week.

Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary and CEO Richard Davey announced Friday that reconstruction will cost $34.5 million.

The roadway expected to reopen to traffic by mid-December.

Route 2 is a critical roadway for affected communities and businesses, connecting residents to key arteries including I-91 and to Albany, New York.
