ERVING, Mass. (WWLP) - A 59 year old woman from Wendell was rescued after jumping off the French King Bridge into the river below.

It happened just before 5 o'clock Saturday night in the Franklin County town of Erving.

State Police Trooper William O'Connel told 22News that the woman jumped off the bridge, surviving the nearly 180-foot plunge into the freezing river.

The current took her down the river but she was eventually rescued 40 minutes later by the Montague Fire Department and taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

No word on her condition.
