FEEDING HILLS, Mass. (WWLP) - We now know that 12 million gallons of water was lost after a water supply line break in Feeding Hills on Monday.
The water poured uncontrollably out of the steel pipe for about an hour and 20 minutes. The pipe has been shut down, and the water supply is now being diverted from another pipe.
"We're also going to take the opportunity to do some evaluation of the pipe,” said Kathy Pedersen of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission. “We'll make sure that the integrity of the pipe is good, and it will probably be four weeks before the final repair is done."
Pedersen said the water from the ruptured pipe may have flown into the Westfield River, causing it to look more muddy than usual.
