WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It weighs 197 thousand pounds and will require a police escort as it moves through the streets of Westfield on Thursday night.

After 10:00 P.M., a massive autotransformer will be brought from the Westfield rail yard to the WMECo’s Pochassic Substation. The utility company says that the project is part of its effort to improve the electric transmission network.

The convoy carrying the huge piece of electrical equipment will follow this route:

  • Left on Union Street from the Rail Yard
  • Right onto Route 10/202
  • Left onto Notre Dame Street
  • Left onto Crown Street
  • Left onto Montgomery Street
  • Right onto Murray Avenue
  • Straight onto Oakdale Avenue to WMECo’s Pochassic Substation

Because of the convoy, there will be a parking ban on Crown Street, Murray Avenue, and Oakdale Avenue from 7:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M.

WMECo says that the move should not interrupt anyone's electrical service.
