CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - More than a dozen reservists returned home from a mission to Afghanistan early Wednesday afternoon.
The reservists from the 58th Aerial Port Squadron were reunited with members of their families at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, shortly after they landed at Bradley International Airport.
"This is my first trip overseas, so coming home is always and exciting moment," said Sgt Joseph D'Amico of the 58th Aerial Port Squadron.
A1C Brenda McCarthy said that she could not wait to see her family, adding that she was "completely overwhelmed with excitement."
The reservists were deployed for the last six months to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, and in late August, a group of more than 20 reservists were deployed their to take their place.
Aerial port reservists specialize in loading and unloading cargo in military and civilian aircraft. During 58th Aerial Port Squadron's mission, Lt Alan Fairey says the reservists processed 325,883 passengers, 141,332 tons of cargo, and 2,536 tons of mail.
