SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - One of the largest fundraisers for the Special Olympics Massachusetts took place on Saturday morning, at Western New England University.
The rainy weather did not affect the fun that was in-store at this year's 2012 Jolly Jaunt. Every year this annual fundraiser features a timed competitive 5k race, a 1-mile fun walk, and a Junior Jaunt for children 10 and under. All of those who participated received jingle bells for their sneakers, and admission to the holiday party that followed the race.
The pledge-driven event had a minimum donation or registration fee of $35 and teams were also responsible for raising money for the event. A total of $23,500 was collected in all this year--which is about $2,000 more than last year. These proceeds will go directly to the local Special Olympics programs and athletes here in the Greater Springfield and Hampshire County areas.
If you would like to donate to the Jolly Jaunt , they are still accepting online contributions until December 21st.
