HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Students at Holyoke's Maurice Donahue Elementary School learned on Thursday that reading can be rewarding.

The school honors its students who read books. Their goal is to have every student read at least 25 books each year.

Children at the school on Whiting Farms Road told 22News that they hope to meet that challenge.

“I love reading, because certain kinds of books like sports make me feel happy,” sixth grader Jaden Olivero said.

“I just like to learn new things from a book, and it has happy endings from books,” third grader Damian Sanchez said.

22News Storm Team Meteorologist Ashley Baylor was a guest of the school, reading to two classes. Ashley also found time to go one-on-one with students. She stressed how fond she is of reading as many books as possible.
