2,800 packets of heroin seized in Holyoke drug investigation

Drugs had street value of about $28,000

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - About 2,800 bags of heroin, carrying a street value of $28,000 were seized when Holyoke police arrested a man and a woman on drug charges on Friday.

Holyoke Police Lt. Matthew Moriarty notified 22News that Christopher Caballero and Yashira Vazquez were arrested following an investigation into drug dealing near Appleton and Chestnut Streets.

According to Moriarty, as part of the investigation, police had set up surveillance, and saw what they believed to be a hand-to-hand transaction. It was then that they arrested the two.

In addition to the heroin seized in the investigation, Moriarty says that police also found a 7.62X39 rifle magazine.

Caballero is charged with distribution of a class A substance (heroin), trafficking in heroin, conspiracy to violate drug law, and violation of a drug-free school zone.

Vazquez is charged with conspiracy to violate drug law, being present where heroin is being kept, possession of a class A substance (heroin), and possession of a large-capacity weapon or feeding device.
