HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The festivities kick off Saturday with the Holyoke St. Patrick's Day Road Race.

Across the country, 133 millions Americans will be celebrating the holiday. 4.7 billion dollars will be spent, and that's just on Sunday.

Here in western Mass. some people are taking it low-key while others are planning to spend a good amount of money.

Craig Berthim of Springfield told 22News, “I'm probably going to stay home and make some Guinness stew, drink beer, have a good time.”

“I’m most likely going to go see the Dropkick Murphys in Boston," said Sheila Kroll of Springfield.

If you do go out this weekend, try to set a budget ahead of time to save money, and you can try to avoid the temptation of spending too much by leaving credit cards at home.
