WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The sound of military aircraft in the area over western Massachusetts has left some uneasy.

The 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield has been conducting night training missions.

Major Matthew Mutti told 22News that the flights were scheduled months ago, and have nothing to do with the death of Osama bin Laden or any potential fallout.

The timing had a lot of people concerned, however. “Every day, you hear them and it gets pretty annoying after a while. You wake up to it, you fall asleep to it,” Shawn Riffenburg of Holyoke said.

Major Mutti did say that Barnes has upped its security on the base as a precaution.
