Between pet and spouse, many choose pet

Most married people would choose spouse, however

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Your furry friend or your significant other: which would you choose?

According to a new poll, 14% of pet owners would choose their pet. The majority of those were unmarried. Over 90% of married people said they would choose their spouse.

Joking aside, pets that are given up because of personal or relationship issues might end up in dire situations.

Last year, the MSPCA received more than 700 pets that were surrendered for just that reason. Some of them may never make it into a new home.

Candy Lash of the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society says there are some things pet owners can do if pets have behavioral problems.

"If it's a matter of a behavioral issue that's impacting the relationship of humans, we have a host of options for them. We offer training class, we have our spay neuter clinic, we have our behavioral consultants who can talk through behavioral issues," said Lash.

Remember that next time it comes down to a battle between your pet and your spouse.
