CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The destruction of an old building to make room for new housing is starting the revitalization process in Chicopee.

Demolition started this morning at 41 Chestnut Street in Chicopee.

The space will be a home for first-time homebuyers.

This is the eighth property that the city is fixing.

Mayor Bissonnette says, “This house was problem property. It had code violations and structurally unsound and it had to come down. “

Mayor Bissonnette also says the project is expected to be completed by next year.
