ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) - Gas prices just over the state line in Connecticut have reached the four-dollar per gallon mark.
22News traveled to Enfield Monday morning, where the prices we found for a gallon of unleaded regular gas all surpassed $4.
At the Mobil Station on Elm Street right off Interstate 91, regular gas was selling for $4.19 per gallon, while drivers making the short trip up Interstate 91 in Springfield could buy a gallon of gas for $3.79 per gallon; a difference of 40 cents per gallon.
That is where 22News found Shawn Groleau of Enfield. He hasn't bought gas in his home state in years. "Too much, too much, we're going on a trip up to Deerfield, right now, If we had to pay those prices, we wouldn't be doing it," he said.
On Route 5, right at the state line, the Valero Station just over the Connecticut side charges $4.09 for a gallon of unleaded regular, while a few feet up the road on the Massachusetts side, the Longmeadow Pride station charges $3.79 per gallon, but Pride President Robert Bolduc doesn't offer much encouragement for the immediate future. In Bolduc's words, "before the year is out, we may wish gas prices were 4 dollars again." After all, 60% of the gas we use comes from the Middle East, and Wall Street speculators keeping bidding up the price
