SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - You can't be too careful when someone reports the strong smell of gas.

Someone said they smelled the gas coming from Springfield's New North Citizens Council on Main Street.

Springfield Police Sgt. Robert Tardiff told 22News, firefighters got into the building and checked out the report, and found nothing out of the ordinary.

Columbia Gas Company and Springfield's Water and Sewer Commission also made sure the area was safe.
