SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Getting an education can change someone's life. That's why the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity gave out 10,000 dollars in scholarships Sunday.
They celebrated the recipients at their annual scholarship award luncheon Sunday afternoon at Elegant Affairs in Springfield.
One of those recipients, Tyrone O'Banner, told 22News he plans on attending Loyola University in Maryland, in the fall. There he plans on majoring in Biology so he can one day become a doctor. He said this scholarship will help him achieve that goal.
“I feel really grateful. I'm glad I'm a recipient. I’m very proud of the Alpha Phi Alpha community,” said Tyrone O’Banner.
Every year the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity donates scholarships to African American and Latino young men, here in Hampden County.
