Girl killed in Andrew St. shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A young woman died after being shot in the head in Springfield late Wednesday night.

Springfield Police Officer Rick Rodrigues told 22News that the victim, who is only being publicly identified as a "juvenile female," died at Baystate Medical Center at 11:19 Wednesday night.

Springfield Police Detectives continue the investigation into her murder, the city's 15th of 2011 , and the second in a two-day period.

Lt. John Slepchuk told 22News that they are looking for at least one suspect. As of right now, however, they still have no description to release.

The girl's death happened just 24 hours after the killing 25 year old Jonathan Tallaj , marking the city's 14th murder of the year. Police say he was shot in front of his Wilmont Street apartment while walking home from dinner at a neighbor's house.

Tallaj's family told 22News he was never arrested or involved in drugs or gangs, so police are finding it hard to determine a motive, if any, in that case.
