Hasbro cutting, moving 145 jobs

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (AP) - Toymaker Hasbro Inc. is moving about 70 jobs from its western Massachusetts facility to Rhode Island and laying off another 75 Massachusetts-based workers in a reorganization of its gaming division.

The cost of the move announced Wednesday will appear in Hasbro's second-quarter earnings report in July, but will not affect its 2011 outlook.

Pawtucket-based Hasbro says the loss of 145 jobs in East Longmeadow, Mass. is part of its plan of creating a new center for game development.

The toymaker is receiving up to $1.6 million in tax breaks from the state as part of a plan to add nearly 300 jobs in Rhode Island over the next three years. A Hasbro spokesman declined to say whether Wednesday's move was related to that plan.

Hasbro employs 1,400 in Rhode Island.
