WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Massachusetts State Police have identified the victims of a deadly crash on Interstate 91 in West Springfield Thursday night.

According to a news release sent to 22News by Massachusetts State Police Media Relations, Karla Nieves-Vazquez, 23, of Springfield, and Jesus Nieves, 17, of Springfield were killed in the single-car crash.

Troopers believe Nieves-Vazquez lost control of the 2002 Dodge Stratus she was driving while headed southbound on I-91 between exits 14 and 13. The car flipped over several times before landing in the median.

Both Nieves and Nieves-Vazquez were dead before they could be taken to the hospital. Two other passengers, Jesus A. Ferreira, 20, and Martin A. Nieves, 18, both of Springfield, were taken to Baystate Medical Center.

State Police do not believe that either Nieves or Nieves-Vazquez were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
