SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield celebrated Kwanzaa Tuesday. The Black History Collective and Black Leadership Alliance gathered at City Hall. The holiday, started by a professor of African studies back in the 1960s, has become a way to celebrate African-American community, culture, and family, but everyone is invited to join the festivities.
"Kwanzaa is an African-American organization, however, we would love for people to come and enjoy with us and celebrate it with us, so that we can share this information with all cultures and different communities," Kwanzaa coordinator Ayanna Crawford said.
"Days like this, we have to bring the City together and everything that we do just really contributes to that," Springfield Mayoral Aide Darryl Moss said.
Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26 through January 1.
