Man arrested for neighbor's murder

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - One man is dead after being shot Sunday afternoon and the man accused of the murder lived in the same apartment building as the victim on State Street.

22News was there as 70 year old Walter Dorset of 683 State Street was being led away by Springfield police officers. Detective Captain Peter Dillon told 22News that Dorset has been charged with murder. He's accused of shooting his 48 year old neighbor in an alleged dispute over an auto accident involving the two of them.

The victim was shot in a first floor hallway. He died from the gunshot wound about two hours later at Baystate Medical Center.

22News spoke with Khali Maddox-Abdeseo, who said he knew both men, and spoke about the man who was shot. “A relatively quiet kid well respected of everyone in the building, Mostly inhabitants are Muslim, so very peaceful, all the other tenants are peaceful too, including the alleged shooter, I'm just surprised.”
