HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Holyoke police sergeant Kevin Thomas told 22News, a man was bitten by a snake on Mt. Tom near the Holyoke, Easthampton line around 5pm Saturday.

Sgt. Thomas told 22News the man was hiking on Mt. Tom when, what is believed to be a venomous copperhead snake bit him.  The victim grabbed the snake and put him in a bag. The snake was killed.

The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center.  Baystate spokeswoman Amy Swisher told 22News, the hospital keeps anti-venom in stock and it would have been administered in the emergency room.

Holyoke police do not know the man's name or where he is from, because they did not take a report. This was not a criminal case.

Sgt. Thomas did not know how the man was doing after he was sent to the hospital.
