SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Surrendering your pet to an animal shelter is nothing new, but you can imagine the shock when a man from the Boston area city of Lawrence turned over 94 hamsters to the shelter manager.
Understandably he explained that he was just running out of room for rodents in his apartment.
People do love their pet hamsters.
Sunday at the Pet Place shop in West Springfield, Allison Smith told 22News, in today's world it gets expensive having several hamsters, let alone 94.
“ Especially with the hamsters you need the food and the shavings and things for them to chew on and water bottles, it’s a responsibility. ”
But Alison can understand how animal lovers like her self can get attached to these cute little critters.
In fact when the man from Lawrence gave up his 94 hamsters, he's said to have been overwhelmed with emotion when his hamsters were taken away in cages.
