Man hospitalized after crashing into utility pole

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man is recovering in the hospital Sunday morning after crashing into a utility pole in Springfield.

Springfield Captain Cheryl Claprood told 22News this accident happened at the intersection of Plumtree Road and South Branch Parkway just before midnight Saturday.

Claprood said that 30 minutes after the accident, the transformer blew.

He was taken to Baystate Medical Center. He suffered cuts and bruises and is expected to survive.
