Mayor Morse continues a Holyoke Halloween tradition

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - In the wake of this week's storm, Holyoke decided to postpone outdoor trick or treating Wednesday night; however, pre-school children picked up some treats at City Hall .

Mayor Alex Morse continued a long-standing tradition in Holyoke. Pre-school children from all over the city came to get their Halloween treats in the Mayor's office.

Because of Post-Hurricane conditions, Mayor Morse postponed neighborhood trick or treating until Saturday.

Morse feels that was the right decision. “I think most people will be doing it on Saturday night, we've gotten a pretty positive response from parents and teachers in particular.

Holyoke police has established a tradition of their own. The kids will get candy Saturday from Holyoke police officers Saturday from noon until four O'clock at the neighborhood police station on Maple Street.

Wednesday at Holyoke City Hall, it wasn't only the children getting into the Halloween spirit. Pre-school teacher Jennifer Vasquez told 22news, “They had a lot of fun. They were able to collect a lot of candy; all the people are very nice. They were dressed up, it was really fun.”

The goodies these children received at Holyoke City Hall may tide them over until the city's sanctioned trick or treating on Saturday.
