Multiple charges for Springfield man after police chase

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - After a high speed pursuit Friday morning, police have arrested a Springfield man for kidnapping, possession of cocaine, and failure to stop for police.

According to Sgt. John Delaney, around 5:00AM, Tregg Barney, 35, was speeding and failed to stop at a stop sign, and continuing to speed down Maple Street.

The car came to a stop near Stockbridge Court. The officers observed a 35 year old female passenger open the side door and attempt to flee, however the driver continued driving preventing the passenger from fleeing.

Barney crashed the SUV into a chain line fence on College Street after losing control of the vehicle.

Officers arrested Barney on State Street after he attempted to run on foot. Barney was caring a package of crack cocaine while driving a stolen red Dodge Caliber.

Tregg Barney is being charged with:
- Kidnapping
- Failure to Stop for Police
- Receiving Stolen MV
- A&B
- Reckless Operation
- Unlicensed Operation
- Stop Sign Violation
- Two Stop Light Violations
- Possession of Class "B" Cocaine
- 7 Default Warrants
- Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident

Barney will be arraigned in Springfield District Court Friday.

The female victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center and was treated for a leg injury. She has been released.
