SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - There is no verdict yet in the trial of Michael Jacques. Jurors began deliberating Tuesday morning and were dismissed at Noon. Deliberations will begin again Wednesday at 9:00 A.M.
Both sides, including the defendant's family, have been asked not to speak to the media until after the trial.
Jacques and two friends were charged with setting fire to the Macedonia Church of God in Christ in Springfield the night that President Barack Obama was elected.
Members of the Macedonia Church say that they are ready to forgive, and hope no matter what the verdict is, that something positive will come out of the trial. "We hope that when this is passed down to the next generation, that hatred and evil is not a way of life for all people," church member Arnold Patterson said.
If convicted, Jacques faces up to 60 years in prison. The new, rebuilt Macedonia Church is expected to be finished by June.
