SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The first numbers are out for the new laws that are aimed at preventing bullying.
The Boston Globe reports that Springfield Public Schools had 256 complaints of bullying behavior during the school year.
Springfield was one of the few cities in the state that submitted these numbers at a district level, as opposed to a school level.
The state is reviewing the ten largest school systems. Some people 22News talked to were surprised how wide spread it is.
Carla Wessels says, “Bullying doesn't stop when you're out of school, it goes on into adulthood and in the workplace, so I think if children are educated on that it might stop.”
Boston Schools did not know how many complaints were made because the cases were handled at each school rather than at the central district offices.
