Some plans may have been cancelled

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Open enrollment for Medicare starts this weekend, and there are some changes senior citizens need to know about.

There are some plans that have been cancelled. This could mean more seniors will pay more for plans or their prescriptions will not be covered.

According to SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders), now is the time for seniors to choose a plan that's right for them. “If the plan was dropped, they can look for a new plan or get a different one, or the company that dropped the plan will have a subsidized plan and they'll be switched to that,” SHINE outreach coordinator Vanessa Martinez said.

For more information on Medicare open enrollment, you can call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE or 1-800-633-4227.
