Out-of-work looking for hope

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - 23 year-old Darrell Davis of Springfield hopes he will get his lucky break at the Urban League Job Fair. He has been out of work for more than a year. Darrell told 22News that it is enough to discourage anyone. “Been tough, very tough. I'm figuring I'm not getting any job. I have no experience, and I can't get any experience without getting any jobs,” he said.

You are mistaken if you think that the ranks of the job-seeking unemployed only include young people. John Childers of Springfield lost his job driving a bus some time ago, and he hasn't been able to find work since. Childers told 22News of his predicament: “It's tough. You run out of options. I've gone the gamut, you know, there's just nothing there you know,” Childers said.

Some of the biggest companies in the Pioneer Valley are reportedly looking for workers. That is what attracted thousands of jobless people to the Urban League's job fair Monday at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield. National Urban League President Marc Morial told 22News that young people need to be more inspired and motivated to understand that the world out there is not an easy world.
