SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Parents of students at the New Leadership Charter School in Springfield are upset after hearing that the school will close at the end of the academic year.

Dozens of concerned parents gathered at the Spring of Hope Church of God and Christ in Springfield Saturday night.

They told 22News they were shocked to hear that the school their kids go to was half a million dollars in debt

They may even try to devise a plan to keep the doors open using money from their own pockets.
Parents told 22News what makes them so upset.

“They didn't let us know in advance what was going on from the beginning,” Frankie Jacobs told 22news.

Zaida Govan said, “The solution is to absorb our students into the public school system which is underperforming. And out charter school is performing better than the public schools.”

New leadership's students would be absorbed into the public school system.
