SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Many who were stuck inside Saturday night will be looking to make up for lost time as they ring in the New Year.

But Massachusetts State Police will be on the lookout for those who enjoy themselves just a little too much Monday night.

According to AAA Pioneer Valley, New Year's Day is when the highest number of alcohol related deaths occurs.

Kyle Burns told 22News the only way to avoid drunk drivers is to not even risk hitting the roads. "Stay home and spend it with family. Maybe have some friends over. It does provide me a lot of comfort knowing I'm at home enjoying the New Year not worrying about those things. "

The Massachusetts State Police have already arrested more than 4800 people this year for drunk driving.
